Where's the good sportsmanship. Also, I never liked the way the CPU player would come towards the net and taunt my guy after a winning shot was made. I have had the game about 5 months and have not gotten any enjoyment out of the game, except when knocking down most of the "barrels" in one of the training exercises, and that was very little enjoyment indeed. I would not recommend Top Spin 3 to someone that might be overly challenged (like me) to keep pushing the control pad (and the other buttons) in just the exact way required to make good shots. It is very difficult to actually get your player into the exact spot on the court in order to make consistently good forehands and backhands. This game, Top Spin 3, was a great frustration because it is so difficult to get all the buttons pushed just so in order to actually play the game well, which I never did, and I spent hours trying.
no matter what skill level you are". That got old really quick. I felt like a total spaz playing this particular game, whereas in other games for the DS I am not a bad player, like Tiger Woods PGA tour 08 and Call of Duty 4. I could never even break the CPU's serve. If you might be expecting to somewhat master the controls for this game, you could be sorely disappointed, as I was. Top Spin 3 is not, as the product features state, "easy to pick up and play.
Playing a match against the computer is a totally different story than knocking down some barrels.
The good thing is that you can continue to play even when you become number one. The sound is pretty good and it's a fun game even though it might be hard to catch on to. The graphic is not so good. It's too bad you can't get all the stars in training.
Everything is done with the d-pad, L&R buttons, etc, making this a button-mashing game of epic frustrations. No. We gain none of the benefits of the DS (save its portability); very disappointing. If you're still interested, wait a few months, when you'll invariably be able to buy used copies for $8.99, which I think is a better price for the quality of play on this platform. I have not played this game on other consoles, nor have I played any previous incarnations of Top Spin--so apologies if this is "standard knowledge" for this publisher: but I found this a very disappointing port of this game, as it makes no use of the stylus during gameplay. Having been spoiled by Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08, I'd have thought there would be opportunities galore to have the player power-up his serve, aim his racket, or at least run by using the touch-screen.
It takes a while to get good at this game and at the beginning I was not sure if buying it was a good decision or not. You have practice mini games and tournaments to help increase your rank. But once you get the hang of it, the game is challenging and fun. I did not purchase either of the other Top Spin games so I have nothing to compare this one to but I really like this game. You try to get yourself to rank #1 in the world of tennis and you start out ranked 100.
